Trinity College's
Illinois Scholarship program—

Helping Illinois Students obtain an exceptional
Liberal Arts Undergraduate Education

Trinity's College's Illinois Scholarship Program offers Illinois high school students a unique opportunity to attend one of the nation's preeminent liberal arts colleges. Since the program began in 1948, it has provided more than $3 million in scholarships to over 300 Illinois students. Awarded on the basis of intellectual distinction, character, and leadership abilities, the scholarships meet students' full demonstrated financial need.

Illinois Scholars do not need to arrange for student loans or hold a campus job during the academic year. They thus have more time to study and to take advantage of the extensive opportunities for cultural exploration, internships, and community service provided by Trinity's location in the capital city of Hartford.

And, Illinois Scholars have a remarkable opportunity to explore personal and professional interests during their summers, thanks to the newly launched Illinois Scholars Summer Internship Funding Program. Providing up to $5,000 per year, the internship program will fund approved summer internships for three consecutive summers beginning after freshman year.

The Illinois Scholarship Program has helped me tremendously. With the free time that the scholarship allows me, I have been able to concentrate on my studies as well as participate in extra-curricular activities. This scholarship will also help me later on in life, as I will have no restricting educational debts after I graduate. I'll have freedom.

Widely recognized as one of the finest liberal arts colleges in the nation, Trinity offers an education that is both global in scope and closely connected to the local community, the city, and cities throughout the world. Trinity's rigorous curriculum presents a broad array of interdisciplinary studies, exceptional offerings in science and engineering, and abundant opportunities for collaborative research with a faculty of devoted teacher-scholars.

Because of the College's small size—the current undergraduate student body is only 1,939, and the student-to-faculty ratio is 10:1—students come to know their professors personally and establish one-to-one working relationships with them. Classes are small, too. On average, class size is 21 students, and classes of five to fifteen students are common.

Trinity professors are both challenging and supportive. A good deal of learning happens outside the classroom, too. Students and professors often discuss course topics over a cup of coffee in the student center, local cafes, and sometimes even professors' houses. Trinity's small size also contributes to the campus' friendly atmosphere.

The Illinois Scholarship Program is what brought me to Trinity. Every semester, something happens that reminds me how glad I am that I came to a small school with such committed teachers—always willing to meet or talk or help in any way that they can. Trinity offers many amazing opportunities that I never expected to encounter—for research and study abroad, for example. And I am excited not to have to deal with loans once I graduate. As a junior, the last thing that I need to worry about is paying back government loans for my college education.

Trinity's location makes it easy to broaden your horizons. From the campus it's only an hour's drive to the shore and two hours to Boston and New York. The climate is pure New England—breathtaking autumns of red, copper, and gold; moderate, snowy winters for skiing; gorgeous springs of 100 shades of green; and pleasant summers with mild temperatures.

No matter what your interests outside the classroom might be—acting, athletics, community service, music, or politics—you'll discover hundreds of opportunities to explore them, to find new ones, and to meet people who share your intellectual passions.

And, beginning with the Class of 2004, Illinois Scholars will have a remarkable opportunity to explore personal and professional interests during their summers, thanks to the newly launched Illinois Scholars Summer Internship Funding Program. Providing up to $5,000 per year, the internship program will fund approved summer internships for three consecutive summers beginning after freshman year.

The Illinois Scholarship Program has given me opportunities that I would otherwise not have had. Besides being able to attend a college that would have been beyond my means, I am being exposed to a new environment of ideas and people that I hardly knew existed. In addition to these benefits, I do not have a cloud of college loans hanging over my head, so I am able to study and learn and enjoy my college years, and even consider graduate school. The Illinois Scholarship Program has given me a wonderful opportunity for a quality education, and I intend to make the most of it.
