Past Illinois Scholars

The Illinois Scholars program has a proud history of scholars who have attended Trinity College and gone on to do great things. Below you can hear from a few of them.

I come from an academic family—my father was a teacher, and I, for three years, was a teacher—and I have an appreciation of what the Trinity faculty can do for people, what they did for me. It's easy to teach—it's easy to sort of get up in front of people and talk. But knowing how to energize people, as do the devoted faculty at Trinity, is different.

George F. Will '62 Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, syndicated columnist, and political analyst. A graduate of University High School in Urbana, Illinois, he earned a bachelor of arts degree in religion from Trinity.

Trinity has a beautiful campus and excellent educational opportunities. It's definitely different from the Midwest and definitely worth serious consideration.

Steven P. Nuernberger, MD '67 who is a pathologist with Anderson Hospital in Maryville, Illinois. A graduate of Edwardsville High, Illinois, he earned his bachelor's degree in biology from Trinity.

In terms of preparation throughout my life, Trinity did a very good job. I'm still using the math I learned in my calculus courses at Trinity.

Marshall E. Blume '63 who is the H. Butcher Professor of Finance at The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. One of the nation's most respected business analysts, he is in demand as a consultant to leading U.S. corporations and government agencies. He was a resident of Northbrook, Illinois before attending Trinity where he received a bachelor's degree in mathematics.

I did not have any financial aid problems while I attended Trinity. The monies from the scholarship allowed me the freedom to study, learn about myself, and experience the Trinity social life without maintaining a job. Trinity's foreign exchange and internship programs provide you with experiences you may not have the time or money to explore when your college career is complete. The liberal arts curriculum is structured enough to provide sufficient courses in your particular major, but it also allows you the flexibility of learning other disciplines.

Patrice Ball-Reed '80 Deputy Supervisor of the Real Estate Property Tax Division at the Cook County State Attorney's Office in Chicago, Illinois. A native of Chicago, she earned a bachelor's degree in economics from Trinity.

I attended Trinity expecting an excellent education and a cultural experience. I received both and much more. The learning experience was profound. I believe that was the happiest time of my life. I was able to pursue my goals freely and I received excellent training and guidance in my career path. I now have a rewarding profession that I would enjoy even if I had to do the work for free...Trinity started that for me.

Belinda Lewis Hubert '77 chief psychologist for the Family Stress Clinic in Libertyville, Illinois. She attended Clinton Community High School in Clinton, Illinois and earned bachelor's degrees in psychology and Spanish from Trinity.
